![]() ![]() I usually like to use activity level, so for example if I’m training for a half marathon I set my baseline from ‘not very active’ to ‘lightly active’ to account for my increased metabolic rate due to long distance running, and it increases my baseline by ~300. To change your baseline calories on the MFP app, you go into ‘more’ -> goals -> Weekly goal/Activity level. So if the app gives you too much or too few calories, you can easily change the baseline calories on MyFitnessPal to get you to your goal One trick you do do as well is that you can change your average activity level on MyFitnessPal while also adding in exercise calories from Fitbit, which allows you to easily change your baseline. If you want a small deficit, it may take some more fine tuning to get it to work well. I find that it works fairly well, although being pretty active allows me to be in a nice 500-750 calorie deficit while eating 2500 calories/day, so that I don’t have to worry about not getting enough nutrients or macros for general health. Walking and running is more accurate via distance-based formula, but for some activities HR-based is best estimate - even if pretty rough.įitbit has your restingHR, but it's estimating your HRmax (rather important, did you avg 140 of 160 max, or 200 max for instance), and your VO2max, from other stat's (BMI and amount of workouts).īut even if you had measured HRmax and VO2max stats to put into a formula - HR can be inflated for cooling purposes, stress, dehydrated and thick blood, ect.Īnd is only a valid estimate for steady-state aerobic - not intervals, not sub-aerobic (like daily life) or anaerobic (like sprints), and not the upper & lower ranges of the aerobic range (like walking or running max speed). It'll overwrite whatever Fitbit came up with via HR, but you can leave the Activity Record to view the other stats - HR, distance, steps, original calorie burn. Shoot - manually log it on Fitbit as Workout Record after the fact - you'll get the same well calculated calorie burn. ![]() Your other sites if they used weight and pace, or distance and time - were more accurate.
